{Off Shoots} Kari Herer

by Alexis on December 17, 2012

As part of the Holiday Gift Guide, we thought a series of downloadable cards and gift tags would be a perfect holiday token for readers. It didn’t take long to decide who to ask to collaborate with us on this project—photographer Kari Herer was the first name on our list. We’ve been smitten with her work since we first saw her botanical prints and thought they’d translate beautifully for the holidays. Lucky for us, Kari was already hard at work on a series that dovetailed perfectly with what we had in mind.

She was kind enough to put together a free downloadable set of two greeting cards and four gift tags for the Gift Guide. In addition to the cards, we also got a glimpse into Kari’s studio and her process of putting together the combination of botanical arrangements and hand illustrations that define her signature style. If you’re a fan of Kari’s work, you’ll enjoy reading about what inspires her. And if you still need to send out some holiday cards or if you’ve got a gift-wrapping marathon ahead, be sure to check out the download in the guide as well!

More Sleeveface

by Anh-Minh on December 15, 2012

We had so much fun at our Sleeveface-inspired shoot (read more out it here) and thought there were so many good images taken that day, that we put together a special weekend post to share additional photos. Enjoy!

Samantha Hahn

by Alexis on December 14, 2012

I first saw Samantha Hahn‘s work through her blog, Maquette, and was instantly smitten. Her unique style and whimsical use of color immediately caught my attention. I spent more than one lunch break scrolling through her archives and admiring her daily drawings posts. Needless to say, I’ve been a long-time fan.

So when I found out Samantha would be illustrating not one, but two pieces for us in Issue No. 9, I couldn’t wait to see what she’d come up with. We asked her to tackle the Making the Magazine feature, and also our Screen Play column. For Making the Magazine, she captured the music memories of the Anthology team, as well as tiny outtakes from several shoots (including a lovely pair of globes!). And for the Screen Play column, the mashup of the five films we featured brought in playful elements from each. If you didn’t see them on your first pass through the magazine, it’s worth going back to check them out. And for more inspiration, make sure to check out the rest of her illustrations at Maquette or in her portfolio.

{Off Shoots} Michele Varian

by Anh-Minh on December 13, 2012

A couple of months ago—right around the time we were releasing Issue No. 9—Kate posted about her love for designer Michele Varian’s shop. The entire Anthology team has actually been a fan of Michele’s for quite some time now (it’s on my list of must-visit places whenever I’m in Manhattan). So we were ecstatic to feature the loft that she shares with her musician husband, Brad Roberts, in Issue No. 9.

As usual, we couldn’t publish every single shot in the magazine. Here are some of the additional images of the couple’s home that we think are too good not to share! We hope you enjoy the photos—and if you’re in NYC’s SoHo neighborhood, be sure to stop by the Michele Varian store.

The holiday rush is here with the 25th just under two weeks away! I spent the day with gingerbread in the oven, pulling out decorations, and doing some last-minute online shopping. But even with a long holiday to-do list, it didn’t quite feel like Christmas until I turned up my speakers and started playing some holiday tunes. I’ve already heard the classics on the radio and in almost every store I’ve been to in the last few weeks, so I opted instead to listen to the playlist we put together for the Holiday Gift Guide.

It’s full of unexpected wintery songs, including a couple that I’m sure will be on my holiday playlists for years to come. (You can listen to it on Spotify or through your browser, here.) Music is an instant way to set the mood, and I guarantee it will put you in the holiday spirit. So if you’re trying to check things off your own to-do list, throwing a holiday party, or just working, put this on and you might find some new favorites, too.
