{Off Shoots} Beekman 1802 Boys

by Anh-Minh on January 30, 2014

Meg and I have had the idea for a “changes and transformations” issue for quite some time now. And when we first heard from Brent Ridge—one-half of the Beekman 1802 Boys—and saw the photos of the home he shares with Josh Kilmer-Purcell, we knew they would be a perfect fit for the issue. (Which is No. 14, the current release that is just hitting mailboxes and store shelves now.)

Brent is a physician who was worked for Martha Stewart Living Omnimedia. Josh was once an advertising art director by day and a drag queen by night. Together, they now operate a farm in upstate New York, which is their residence as well. They also appear on the TV show The Fabulous Beekman Boys, won season 21 of The Amazing Race, and have written several memoirs and cookbooks (The Beekman 1802 Heirloom Dessert Cookbook is their latest).

See what I mean about them being a perfect fit for Issue No. 14? We couldn’t publish all of the great photos that Alec Hemer took of their home and mercantile in the magazine, so today we’re sharing some additional shots here. Be sure to visit the Beekman 1802 Boys website to find out more about the couple. And right now, the Boys are running a special giveaway: three winners will each receive an Anthology subscription. To enter for your chance to win, visit their giveaway page and leave a comment with a change or transformation that you experienced. (The deadline to enter is tomorrow!)

Although we released our latest issue, No. 13, just a few weeks ago, we’re already busy plotting future issues. And to help ensure that we’re delivering the kind of content that you’re most interested in—as well as find out a bit more about our readers—we put together a little survey.

To thank you for taking the time to complete the survey, which should take less than 10 minutes, we’re giving away a $200 West Elm gift card.* The festive goods shown here are just a sampling of my favorites from their holiday collection. Those Purl Soho felt stockings would look so great on my mantel! (Maybe yours, too?) And I’ve already picked out a bunch of items on the WE gift guide to give to friends and family this year. (Okay, I might also need to get one of these leather zipper pouches for myself.)
At the end of the survey, you’ll have the opportunity to enter the giveaway. We greatly appreciate your readership and support, and are looking forward to your input!

*Giveaway is open to U.S. residents. Survey closes and giveaway ends on Saturday, November 30, 2013. (See complete rules here.)

Pippin Giveaway $100 Gift Certificate

I love my job. I really do. But there are definitely aspects of magazine publishing that I wouldn’t describe as enjoyable—and often procrastinate doing. Thankfully, having a workspace that’s attractive and organized does take some of the sting out of the less fun tasks.

Enter Poppin. If anyone could make me look forward to filing, it would be Poppin.

In case you’re not familiar with the company, Poppin is an online purveyor of super-cool office products and furniture. And we’ve teamed up with them to give away a $100 gift card for the site.

To enter for a chance to win, head over to Poppin and have a look around. Then leave a comment here—in this giveaway post—letting us know which office goods you’d nab if you won the $100 gift card.

One winner will be chosen at random. The giveaway ends at 11:59 pm PT on November 13, 2013—so be sure to submit your comment/entry by then. No purchase necessary to enter for a chance to win. See complete rules here.

Mrs Meyers Giveaway Clean Day Bucket and Hand SoapsI’ve been using Mrs. Meyer’s products long before they become an Anthology sponsor, and my messy nine-year-old self would be shocked to hear this, but: they make cleaning fun. I think it’s because I kind of geek out over their great scents—like basil, rosemary, and lemon verbena. Their hand soaps also come in all sorts of wonderful smells. (I actually get compliments on the honeysuckle soap that’s sitting in my guest bathroom!)

Wait, what’s that you say? You want to try out the stuff for yourself? Well, you’re in luck. The very kind folks at Mrs. Meyer’s are offering a big bundle of their goodies—including myriad hand soaps (yes, honeysuckle is in the mix) and cleaning products. The latter even come in a cute metal bucket. To enter for a chance to win, just leave a comment in this post letting us know what your favorite Mrs. Meyer’s scent is—or what scent you’d love to see the company create. (Since they’re our pals, we’ll be sure to pass along your ideas!)

One winner will be chosen at random. The giveaway ends at 11:59 pm PT on October 16, 2013—so be sure to submit your comment/entry by then. No purchase necessary to enter for a chance to win. See complete rules and prize list here.

A few years ago, my husband and I decided to stop buying each other holiday gifts. Well, sort of. Instead of exchanging presents, we’ve agreed to make one major purchase for our house every winter. I usually propose that we buy some art so that we can gradually grow our collection.

One of my go-to online resources when I feel like my walls need a little sprucing up is 20×200. The pricing—which usually ranges from $24 for an 8″x10″ print to $240 for a 16″x20″ print (occasionally, larger sizes are available)—totally supports the site’s motto: “It’s art for everyone!” If you’re looking to update your interior before guests arrive for the holidays or have been eyeing a 20×200 work for a while now, you’re in luck: We’re giving away a $100 gift certificate for 20×200!

Pick up several small prints or a single, bigger print; if you’re the winner, it’s your choice. To enter for your chance to win, just leave a comment below letting us know which 20×200 print is at the top of your wishlist this holiday season. (Women on Rocks by Elizabeth Huey, shown above, is my latest 20×200 acquisition.)

One winner will be chosen at random. The giveaway ends at 11:59pm PT on November 14, 2012. Please note that the email address you provide for contest entry may be shared with 20×200. No purchase necessary to enter for a chance to win. See complete rules here.
