You’re a good kid. You’ve got your Mother’s Day gifting strategy planned to a T. The perfect gift purchased, all that’s missing is the vessel. You know, the accoutrements, the cherry on top … the packaging! With May 12th just around the corner, here are a few wrapping ideas to brighten her day and earn you a few brownie points.

Hand-folded paper flowers make for the perfect tie-on. These pastel pretties are from West Elm.

Perennial favorite Rifle Paper Co. offers the perfect amount of print to spruce up any parcel. I love their bakers twine topped gift tags, especially the pink ombre!

Bespoke, rugged, and so very charming, I love too many things about the England-based company Merchant & Mills. Whether you want pure functionality, vintage-inspired font-heavy packaging, or even the elevation of ordinary objects, Merchant & Mills has it going on. I don’t profess to be a seamstress or even very handy with a needle, but I do try to mend my clothes on my own as much as possible. This sewing notions set, billed as “indispensable” would be totally helpful the next time I rip a seam or need to secure a button. So many possibilities!

{A small sampling of Merchant & Mills offering: Stunningly packaged buttons, needles in a wooden case, and the selected notions box, my personal favorite.}

{I think my love for beautiful scissors has been satiated!}

Every Black Friday, I’m especially thankful for the Internet! There are so many holiday shopping deals to be had and I hate to miss out, but a cup of coffee and my computer is a lot more appealing than long lines before dawn. We invited some of our favorite retailers to participate in this year’s Anthology Gift Guide Holiday Deals section, and I’ve been combing through all of the shops and their special offers. I’ve already checked several names off my list with some of the items above. (I was especially excited to see Walnut Animal Society’s animals for 20% off at Amelia. And did you catch the feature about Lauren Bradshaw, the proprietor of Walnut Animal Society, in the guide?)

We’re still having trouble believing that it’s less than a week until Thanksgiving! Before you know it, it’ll be time to brave the crowds at the stores, set up the gift-wrap assembly line in the living room, and prepare the house for dinner guests and out-of-town visitors.
And that’s where our special, digital Holiday Gift Guide can come in handy! In addition to pages and pages of gift picks from some of our favorite bloggers and shopkeepers—for everyone on your list (hopefully!)—we’ve assembled plenty of original content, including:
- Delicious recipes that will make hosting friends and family a little easier this year
- Exclusive downloads as well as DIYs that will add that special, personal touch to the holidays
- Decorating and entertaining ideas for a festive home and tabletop
- Special discounts with over a dozen fantastic shops
- And more great features, along the lines of what you’d expect to find in our print magazine
The Holiday Gift Guide is only available online, and designed to be viewed on your screen or printed out (if you’re so inclined). It’s a project that we’ve had a lot of fun putting together, and we hope you enjoy it!

Apropos of my post last week on camping, I feel that even those of us who don’t leap at the chance to head out into the wilderness can still appreciate and enjoy all of the awesome gear. After all, a Pendleton blanket and a cup of coffee in a pretty speckled blue enamel cup would be every bit as wonderful in your own home as it is in the middle of the woods. There are so many great designs associated with summer camp, and no shop proves this better than the Wandawega camp store.
Wandawega is a lake resort that has been newly restored and redesigned by owners David Hernandez and Tereasa Surratt. Almost all of the furnishings at the stylish camp came from local thrift stores and estate sales, and all of the interiors share that perfect balance of crisp modern simplicity and rustic vintage charm. Their new shop carries a great selection of vintage camp objects including games, books, kits, tools—they even sell a brass bugle for recreating those dreaded morning wake-up calls. My days of summer camp may be over, but I’m excited to pick up a few goods to bring a taste of camp life into my own home. To see the full selection of the goods available, visit the Wandawega Camp Store here.
