With the (unofficial) end of summer thisclose, now is the time to embrace the outdoors and get out to explore. Think of it as summer’s last call, a chance to soak up the sun before it’s too late! And I can’t think of a better way to celebrate the upcoming long Labor Day weekend than a camping and canoeing trip—especially if these handsomely crafted paddles from Norquay Co. are involved. Each paddle is carved from cherry wood in New Liskeard, Ontario, then hand finished in Montreal, Quebec. They are hand-painted and finished with varnish to protect the wood against the elements and provide durability. While they paddles are perfect for afternoon lake cruises, they’re just as suited to gracing the walls of your home.
Founded by a camping enthusiast, Norquay Co. is a brand dedicated to striking a balance between design and functionality. The name refers to a rather small Algonquinesque island nestled in the cool waters of the North Channel of Lake Huron. As the site of the founder’s first solo camping trip, this island holds quite a bit of sentimental value. Each new paddle collection is inspired by various backpacking and camping adventures had at Norquay, and elsewhere in the Great North.
