During my last few trips to NYC, one of my must-visits has been the Marimekko store (which is conveniently located near some of my other favorite shops, Fishs Eddy and ABC Carpet & Home). But as of last Thursday, I can get my fix of the Finnish brand closer to home: A new location just opened in the SF Bay Area—in Palo Alto, to be exact. There, you can find Marimekko fabrics; bed, bath, and kitchen linens; glassware; ceramics; paper goods; apparel and accessories for women, men, and children. It’s really an impressive range, and worth checking out if you’re in the neighborhood. (If you don’t live near a Marimekko store—they only have a handful of stand-alone stores in the U.S.—they do have a pretty comprehensive online shop.)
I admit: I was a little overwhelmed by all of the pillow options … and even more so by the bolts and bolts of fabrics available by the yard. But now I can’t stop thinking about various projects around the house that could benefit from a Marimekko textile. The colorful and bold graphic prints—I’m eyeing Kesanto, Jurmo, and Bottna—would enliven any corner of a home!
