It’s hard to escape the fact that it’s election season. With constant commercials, yard signs, and bumper stickers for issues and candidates, there’s no shortage of campaign material to take in. But design is usually not a part of the discussion when it comes to politics.
Meg Jannot, a student based in Detroit, has tackled design and politics head on with her project Branding the Presidents of the United States. Meg set out last March to distill each of the 44 president’s terms in office into a single image. Using slogans, pictures, and famous quotes, she’s attempting to capture the personality of every president’s tenure starting with George Washington. Her goal is nearly complete; she’s made it through Ronald Reagan. Each image provides a snapshot of the history of the U.S. It’s a fun series to look at, especially as we get closer to election day!
