After a heat wave for the first couple days of the month (Monday and Tuesday were in the 90s in the Bay Area!), things are back to normal around here, with cool foggy morning and highs in the low 60s. As October sets in and temperatures settle into their fall rhythm, I like to pick up old habits that get forgotten during the warmer summer months. One in particular is a morning cup of tea. While I was browsing for a new tea cup to jump start a tea-filled fall, I came across the work of Nika Stupica, a Slovenian ceramacist.
Nika’s career as a ceramacist started when we was just 7, digging her own clay from a nearby stream to make animal figurines. After studying art throughout school, and then ceramics at the Academy of Educational Art, Nika had a better grasp on ceramics than her 7-year-old self. Her work in porcelain is what first caught my eye. The way she uses the translucency of the material is beautiful, and I love the contrast between the delicate forms and her bold, dotted patterns. It would be such a treat to use one of her mugs to start every morning. And even though Nika’s been working with clay for such a long time, her approach is that there’s always more to be learned. “Because ceramics is the sum of different fields, such as art, design, physics, chemistry and technology, it is so complex I can never stop learning about new techniques and materials.” I’m looking forward to seeing what else she produces in the future!

OMG.. thats all i can really say <3
My wife and I have purchased some beautiful vases from Nika. I am looking at them as I write this.
Nika is a pleasure to work with, communicates precisely about the status of your shipments and she packages these treasures well to ensure they arrive safely. We will be purchasing more of her stunning art soon.
