After spending most of the summer out and about, enjoying the outdoors or taking small trips, I’ve noticed every year around this time I return my attention to the home. In order to prepare for the colder months when I’ll spend a lot more time indoors, I enter a serious nesting phase, which includes deep cleaning, weeding out a few things, and bringing in a few new pieces to refresh the space.
These new objects are usually very cozy, a chunky blanket, a few new pairs of socks, a candle or two—but this year I’ve decided to bring in something new: a big, textural, ceramic vessel for holding branches or winter greens. These ceramic pieces by Japanese artist Kazunori Hamana are exactly what I had in mind. Her vessels have such a presence in the room, and I love the organic quality of the surfaces, with their etched or painted patterns and rich earthy hues. They look amazing in groups as well—don’t you love that image below, of a room filled with giant pots on every surface and tucked into shelves? As far as I can tell, there aren’t any US retailer who carried Kazunori’s work, but if you’re interested in finding out more or purchasing one, you can contact her directly through her site. As my nesting phase continues, I’ll be sure to share what other cozy autumnal treasures I find.
