We’re working with a watercolorist for an illustration in an upcoming issue, and in looking for inspiration I came across the work of Serena Mitnik-Miller. She’s an artist based out of San Francisco and her work is inspired mostly by nature, although it might not be immediately obvious in the geometric patterns she creates. Each piece starts out as an impression from nature and is built of layers of colors, repetitive contour lines, and the inherent qualities of all the materials she employs. While I didn’t see nature in these at first, looking at them now, I can see the bubbles in the ocean and insides of geodes. I love the resulting textures, which remind me of a modern Paul Klee.

Just stunning.
Do you know if she sells prints anywhere? Her work is gorgeous!
This is beautiful artwork. :)
These are so beautiful! I love patterns and colours and these are just such a wonderful balance of both. The first and third one have to be my favourite.
How gorgeous! This inspires me to pick up my paintbrush and make something :) Thanks for sharing!
