This week I’ve been lining up the next series of Guest Recipes which should be happening early this fall. It’s shaping up to be a good one, and I’m looking forward to sharing the details of it next month. In prepping for it, I came across a tumblr Anh-Minh shared with me several months ago. I’d filed it away for later, and was excited to rediscover it and spend some time scrolling through the pages.
The Way We Ate is a side project put together by two New York-based photographers, Noah Fecks and Paul Wagtouicz. Each month, they select one vintage Gourmet magazine from their collection of all 815 ever published and cook a handful of recipes, seeking out some of the best dishes from the 20th century.
The Way We Ate is a glimpse into their cooking adventure, but it reminds me of just how many recipes are out there. So often I get stuck making the same favorites in my recipe box over and over. (And I think I’m not alone—it seems to be a common rut!) Next time I’m at a flea market, I’ll be looking for a few inspiring vintage cooking magazines. And I think I’ll be trying that Blueberry Pudding Cake.
