Cake Love

by kate on June 1, 2012

It’s been a really fun week, but I’m ready for the weekend again! Alexis and I are planning some exciting culinary experiments for the blog, but more on that later. In the meantime, she and I have developed a mean hankering for cake. Whether it’s clean and simple, or colorful and resplendent, no food seems more like a blank canvas on which to create an artistic masterpiece than cake. This “Garden Cake” by Mimi Thorisson, above, is an absolute stunner—but if wild flowers and berries aren’t your topping of choice, I’ve included some of my other favorites gorgeous cakes below. If you have a some downtime this weekend, I encourage you to join Alexis and me in some experimental baking. Have a great weekend, everyone!

I wrote about this Stella Cake by Apollina almost a year ago, but I still think about it all the time, and had to include it again. It’s hands down the most gorgeous cake I’ve ever seen.

Absolutely stunning cakes. I’ve had the Stella cake on my mind for a while, I’ll need to have the recipe ready when blood orange season is here again.

A big need to know:
How ever do you make a pavlova in that lovely shape? It looks like it was baked in a mold but I can’t imagine how one would unmold merangue!

I often make pavlova for dinner parties and this shape would be fabulous!
Thanks
