Last week, after reading the “Strange Days” article in Issue No. 7, in which a writer and photographer strike out to satisfy a desire to get away, and then Kate’s Desert & Beach Roundup, I was struck by a bad case of wanderlust. I spent the weekend planning theoretical, exotic trips and compiling lists of possible spots to explore.
At the top of that list are the Faroe Islands, located somewhere in the middle of the Atlantic between Scotland and Iceland. The windswept cliffs are dramatic and otherworldly, and the architecture is a patchwork of small, colorful buildings; the homes are so striking. My favorite, above, has me trying to figure out how to replicate this look—the expanse of black with just a bit of red—in my apartment. And I’m completely enamored with the turf roofs that seem to be everywhere. It’s a breathtakingly beautiful landscape that I would love to visit.
Are you itching for a getaway? Where do you want to go?

This Island is too quaint, adding it to my lift. My friend and I decided spontaneously that we’re going to Verona next weekend. Since we’re there, we would love to go to one of the little villages of cinque terre, Italy! They look absolutely beaut. x
Well, firstly, I want to visit Faroe Islands a visit so I can stay in a home with red window sills and a grass roof! Any cabin in the mountains is fine by me. I’m also really itching to visit Switzerland…not exactly sure why…
I had never even considered the Faroe Islands until this post. That second picture is so cozy and cheerful looking. I love the look of all the houses, so different from most of what we’d find here.
Right now, the top of my list contains France and Spain. France to explore my mother’s roots and Spain is one that’s been on and off the list and I just get the image of bright colours and lots of sun and that’s something I really want right now.
It is an amazing place to live (take it from a foreigner who fell in the love with this place 10 years ago and stayed). I am still amused by the sunny pictures the Internet presents always. It doesn’t happen so often, though.
The islands are anyway amazing, no matter rain, hurricane, snow or sunny days. And I would recommend to anyone to try coming this way one day. It’s definetely an incrredible experience.
My husband and I were just talking about taking a trip to Scotland then up to Faroe Islands the day before you posted this!
