Evelin Kasikov

It’s no secret that we love embroidery at Anthology, and we admit that we have a soft spot for typography, too. So when we saw the work of Evelin Kasikov, we were instantly smitten. Evelin developed what she calls CMYK Embroidery, a “handmade printing technique” in which she carefully lays out cyan, magenta, yellow, and black stitches to mimic the patterns that are visible up close in offset printing.

One of our favorite projects is a full lowercase alphabet that was designed strictly based on her grid of stitches. For the project, Evelin didn’t start with a font of letters, but instead created a grid of possible stitches. She then designed each letter within that framework. The tactile threads make beautiful close ups, and when you step back from the work, it blends into a dark monotone, just like print.

The best news is that Evelin is currently working on a set of tutorials based on the grids and systems she uses to develop each piece. We’ll be first in line when they’re available!

So excited about the tutorial! I’ve had my eye on these!

I love the sly little circles of space in the ‘A’. I’d hang that up on a wall. The colours are perfectly put together and that black just holds everything together. Definitely can’t wait for the tutorial.
