Metalwork Embroidery by Becky Hogg

by Alexis on March 19, 2012

We have a long-standing love affair with beautiful, handmade crafts here at Anthology Magazine, with an especially soft spot for embroidery. That’s one of the reasons why the work of Becky Hogg has us floored. Becky is a classically trained embroiderer who studied at the Royal School of Needlework and has worked on fascinating projects, like a banner for Queen Elizabeth’s Jubilee! Her style is a mix of clean graphic lines, and Old World elements and patterns, along with a good dose of typography. Each piece looks rich and tactile.

The second reason we’re enamored with Becky’s work is that she’s inspired us to try our hands at it—and she’s also made it easy for us to do so. She has a beautiful Metalwork Letter Brooch kit available for all us who are new to embroidery. The kit includes patterns for metallic, beaded letters on thick felt, and provide instructions for the basics of couching, cutwork, and chipping. (The last image below is a preview of the kit.) Doesn’t this look like the perfect project to curl up on the couch with?
