Fluorescent Paintings by Yago Hortal

by Alexis on March 15, 2012

We love fluorescent shades at Anthology (did you see the feature, Merry & Bright, in our online Winter Gift Guide?) but sometimes you get so used to seeing a trend, that you stop noticing it. Still, you can’t help but notice the stunning use of fluorescents in the paintings of Yago Hortal. The abstract blobs of paint he moves around his canvases are fluid and chaotic at the same time. I could get lost staring at them for hours.

Some look like beautiful landscapes, or intensely marbled papers. Wouldn’t it be fascinating to watch the process he uses to paint them? I find myself trying to imagine just how certain effects were achieved, or how he got the paint to mix just so. If you visit Yago’s site, make sure to take a look at his paintings through the years. The addition of fluorescents really adds so much drama to his work that it definitely transcends trendy.

wow, love this! I’ve been obsessing over abstract painting lately, and am fascinated to see the marriage of that with the current florescent vogue. completely agree that it “transcends trendy.” well put.

I love these paintings! Wonderful colours. A great way to inject some colour into any home.
