It’s been a very busy week so far, but we’re excited to be putting the finishing touches on Issue 7 and heading into the weekend soon. It’s times like these where I’d like to have an oversized chair that I could theatrically collapse into when it’s all done. Imagine if it were a chair like this?
Entitled Big Basket, this piece by designer Ola Gillgren is dramatic and whimsical, but mindfully so: the contrasting textures of scales and weaving, the high sides and back that resemble more of a container than a seat, the pattern created by multiple colors. I’d love to see a version where the metal frame and legs were some other material or finish, and I can envision innumerable beautiful variations of the textile pattern and color as well—a series of comfortable sculptures. I appreciate chairs that can spark the imagination a bit. Click here to see more of Ola Gillgren’s work, and here’s a salute to the piece of furniture in our homes that, however plain or worse for wear, still wins the end-of-a-crazy-work-week collapse. I’m looking at you, sofa.
