Threaded Works from Dominique Falla

by kate on February 28, 2012

We’ve got several craft projects in the works that we can’t wait to share with you, but in the meantime I wanted to share these amazing threaded works by Dominque Falla, which I found while scouring around for material inspiration. Using thread, nails, and immeasurable patience, Dominique creates these intricately woven and brightly colored messages on walls. I can’t decide which I like better: the letters filled with thread or as negative space (bottom images below). Either way, it’s a great idea for making your own personalized wall art that lies somewhere in between painting, sculpture, and poster art. You can see more of Dominique’s process here, and all you type fans will definitely want to check out her blog, Tactile Typography.

I am so in love with her work! I’d love her to come to my home and do an installation! Trying to tackle my own version seems like an impossible task!

Emmy, It would be nice to have a custom installation from the original artist, but if you really wanted a version I think you could do it! It requires some precision and patience, but I’m sure you could create a lovely DIY version. If I were going to do this I would definitely practice on a scrap piece of wood first, since those nail holes can be a paint to patch up :) If you do end up trying it, I wish you luck!

Oh wow! The colours are so vibrant and I love the different and new take on typography. Especially to see the detail shots and how meticulous and well thought out it is.

One of the most inspiring pieces I have seen – love this lady’s work.

Amazing work! I did one too in my studio a while ago.
