The Art of Pesto

by kate on January 30, 2012

Last year we raved about a beet cake recipe video by Matt and Julie of Tiger In A Jar. In fact, we loved their work so much that when it came time to create a film for our Winter Gift Guide, we knew we wanted to collaborate with them. The mulled cider film they created for us is warm, festive, and ultra sensory—you can practically smell the winter greens and clove-laden oranges. Yum.

Matt and Julie are definitely leading the way in this new genre of recipe filmmaking, and we’re excited to share one of their newest projects: a pesto recipe video for Kinfolk Magazine, which was featured on the Etsy blog a couple weeks ago. Set in a dark, rustic kitchen, this film takes us through the delightfully sumptuous task of making a classic Italian pesto, using a recipe created by Heidi Swanson of 101 Cookbooks. The film is an irresistible feast for the eyes; by the end I was halfway out the door to pick up some fresh basil and parmesan. Congratulations must be given to Matt and Julie for another epicurean and cinematic success. We can’t wait to see what they’ll film next!

I know what I’m going to make tomorrow…I might even dim the lights, put on an apron and play some music…I love their films!

Just beautiful! What is the knife-type thing that was used to chop and crush the ingredients?
