{The Dig} Walls of Green

by kate on August 26, 2011

Vertical gardens are a hot trend right now, it’s true. But the real question is—will their popularity ever decrease? My guess is no, and it’s because they are simply too stunning and too much fun to fall out of fashion. Amy Paul and Chad Anglin are the owners of the eco and home design shop Pigment in San Diego, and are no strangers to the wonders of vertical gardening: their shop features green wall that measures over 6′ x 8′ large! In our fourth issue, Amy and Chad gave us an awesome step-by-step tutorial for creating your very own 20″ x 40″ vertical garden.

I’ve already started to gather the materials and can’t wait to get started. In honor of the project, I thought I would dig up one of my all-time favorite “extreme” examples of living walls—this residential installation by famous botanist and vertical gardener extraordinaire Patrick Blanc. I may not have the space for something like this in my home just yet, but with Chad and Amy’s instructions, I’m on my way! Have a great weekend, everyone.

Hi Christina,

It’s actually a tutorial for a hanging vertical garden, created for the magazine by the owners of Pigment in San Diego. It’s on page 50 in Issue #4. It’s not for something as large as the images shown here, of course, but it’s a beautiful project and very easy to recreate. Good luck!
