In Love with A-Frames

by kate on August 16, 2011

They’re sort of funny looking, but A-frame houses will always hold a special place in my heart. Their heyday was in the fifties and sixties, and honestly most versions I’ve seen while traveling seem trapped in that era visually. Clearly A-frames can look incredibly chic and modern; even a bit futuristic. The Allandale House, designed by William O’Brien Jr. in 2009, is a perfect example of how stunning this architectural oddball can be, especially when placed in an idyllic natural setting such as this. You can read more about the features and inspiration behind the Allandale House here, and if you want to share the love of A-frames, feel free to send us pics here, or share them below in the comments. Hooray for A-frames!

I thought I was the only one! An A-frame tucked in amongst the woods is a beautiful sight to behold. I’ve loved them ever since playing the Little People A-frame Playhouse when I was a little girl. ;-)

I love A-Frames! You should definitely check out this cool A-Frame for rent near to Yosemite. It’s a traditional design with a modern twist in a totally beautiful mountain setting, plus it’s quite inexpensive compared to most rentals in the area. You can rent it here: http://bit.ly/amW0oW

Great A-Frame. We never used to like the A-Frame style. However that changed when we bought an old a-frame down at the beach in Bandon, Oregon. It’s been a fun project to fix up this little beach shack. You can see more at http://www.bandonbeachshack.com.

The A-Frame style home is so nice and authentic to build, reside, and appreciate its uniqueness. Whether big or small, that’s awe-inspiring!!
