These drawings by artist Il Lee remind me of foggy Bay Area mornings, much like the one we’re having today. Unbelievably, each one of these drawings was made with just a ball point pen! In reality it’s probably more like 50 ball point pens—my hands are aching just thinking about it. What makes these pieces even more incredible is their size; as you can see in the last image below, some of these drawings measure over 30″ x 40″. Truly amazing; I want one for my wall.

Those are so gorgeous. I can’t even imagine the amount of work… love, patience that went into making them. Thanks so much for sharing! I love the art posts!
These are incredible! Would love to see them in person. They remind me of all the times I doodled in school.. used to love to go over and over the doodles until you couldn’t see anymore white and the paper was crinkly.
I saw a retrospective several years ago of his works over the past 35+ years — just ballpoint pen works on canvas and some on paper. The San Jose Museum of Art show was FANTASTIC. So well put together. Now I heard he has some works at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City.

Thanks! I will definitely check this out—I love reading artist interviews.
The energy looks immediate in all his drawings/paintings, yet each work must take weeks if not months to finish. Much like celebrated impressionist painters wanting to capture a moment .. yet taking weeks to do so. Pretty awesome.
