My heart skipped a beat when I came across these pixelated sculptures by Austin, Texas-based artist Shawn Smith. Shawn produces three-dimensional recreations of animals and other natural objects from images he finds online. As the team behind a print publication in the age of digital media, we certainly share a fondness for artists whose work attempts to make the “intangible tangible,” as Shawn puts it. The resulting sculptures are so beautiful, and I’m hoping an exhibition will make its way to the Bay Area soon. It seems only right to see these in person.
