Anna Emilia Laitinen

by kate on July 27, 2011

I’ve been on a mad search for artists recently, especially illustrators working in pencil or paint. The work of Finnish artist Anna Emilia Laitinen caught my eye, and soon I found myself visiting her site every day to gaze at these paintings again and again. My favorite pieces are her mysterious architectural creations—the “Garden House” shown above, and the “Snow House” and “Forest Studio” shown below—in which leaves and trees meld directly into the structure of the buildings. There are so many small details to pore over that I could easily spend over an hour admiring each one. I hope you visit her site and check out more of her painting and drawings; you won’t be disappointed.

Do you have any favorite illustrators? Please share them with us in the comments; we’d love to learn about someone new!

These are so sweet! Thanks so much for sharing. I love the narrative quality of the last piece, but I’m with you, those whimsical structures draw me in. Some of my current illustrator faves: Heather Smith Jones ( http://www.heathersmithjones.com ), Juliana Swaney ( http://www.ohmycavalier.com ), Justin Richel ( http://www.artistjustinrichel.com ) and Rebecca Layton ( http://www.rebeccalayton.net ), just to name a few!

Feel free to check out my blog, Artsy Forager, for more work by super talented artists! Thank you for today’s inspiration!

Very, very nice! Love the delicate pencil lines and the nature themes. I am a big fan of Jillian Tamaki. Her new Irish Myths and Legends series (for Folio Society) has a magical and detailed touch you might like :)

I love her work, in the winter it made me want to build forts and cuddle up in quilts! Juila Morstad http://www.juliemorstad.com is also very lovely if you haven’t seen her work.

I am very found of the atmosphere of the Swedish artist Jockum Nordstroms collages and work, which are often rich in detail:

As well as Camilla Engman (another Swede), who works in different media. She also shares a lovely blog I follow for inspiration:
