{Attributes} Rena Tom

We’re back with another Attributes! This lovely portrait-in-objects comes from Rena Tom, a friend of the Anthology team and creative business woman extraordinaire. Rena has recently launched her new site which is full of lovely and useful things. She is also teaching a few DIY business classes at Workshop in SF this summer and speaking at the Conference of Creative Entrepreneurs. Busy lady! Here is Rena’s description of her Attributes portrait:

Like many women, I love jewelry. I love making it, I love wearing it, and I love that a lot of the jewelry I have is a gift – it embodies a sentimental moment in time. The photograph is of my parents at their wedding reception. My mom is wearing a jade necklace and bracelet that my grandmother gave to her, and that bracelet is above. (The photo also shows my mom in an embroidered satin jacket; I wore that jacket to my own wedding, 47 years later.)

The jade fish was a gift from my grandmother to me. The Chinese love their totems, as well as jade and gold, and I have other pendants from her as well. I feel connected to my grandmother and my culture every time I peer into my jewelry box! The oxidized silver and gold necklace on the right is one of my own designs, and one of my favorites. It represents a happy and creative time when I was working with my hands and not always on a computer. Finally, the gold and raw diamond band is a fifth anniversary gift from my husband, and that is pretty self-explanatory :)
