Carolina Espinosa’s illustrated sketchbooks remind me of Alice in Wonderland, evoking a captivating mixture of beauty and sweetness with a bit of slightly sinister surrealism. I know some artists use sketchbooks as a place for loose, unfinished doodles or scribblings, which have a beauty of their own, but it’s nice to see an occasional sketchbook filled with cleanly crafted, refined works such as these.
