The weather is improving and not a moment too soon, as we begin work on our outdoor-themed issue due out this summer. (Issue No. 3 is wrapping up nicely!) To celebrate this fact, I thought I would share some images from one of my favorite artists, whose work plays nicely on the theme of outdoor/indoor landscapes: photographer Lori Nix.
Believe it or not, these interiors are actually dioramas built with exacting precision by Nix herself. They can range from about 20-by-20 inches to about six feet in diameter. She photographs her scenes with a large format eight-by-ten camera, resulting in prints that are incredibly large and full of crisp detail. The combination of extreme large and small scales provides a delightful trick on the eye and mind. I don’t know about you, but I could spend hours lost in the haunting, hand-crafted universe of Lori Nix.

This is almost too painfull to look at because it reminds me of Katrina and now of Japan with all the water damages.
Stunning and very thought provoking~Thanks!
wow! just wow!
Is this real?? It is INCREDIBLE. I would need a lot of coffee to concentrate that deeply! I will be starring at these for quite some time–gonna be a while to take in all of the beautiful, thoughtful details!
With Jill on this one, WOW!
WOW! These are absolutely fantastic! I can just imagine the amount of time/energy/creativity she puts into these. It would be so interesting to see these in person. Love it so much and definitely going to check them out. :)
Wow.
Amazing! I would love to have a walk around in any of these interiors, though I see myself in claymation… Beautiful!
