Today’s Attributes is from an amazing local talent: Berkeley artist and illustrator Diva Pyari, the founder of Linea Carta. Linea Carta’s sustainable linens and stationary are all screenprinted by hand, and the entire line of products has a luxurious look and feel that comes from their high quality and Diva’s lovely designs. I’ve admired her illustrations for years now, and always look forward to seeing the new designs she unveils each season. You can also shop for Linea Carta on Etsy.
Here, in her own words, are the objects that portray Diva Pyari:
- The bookmarks represent both my passion for books and and the inspiration I get from Japanese design. I got them on a trip to Tokyo from an amazing bookstore in the Shibuya district. I have an ever growing collection of Japanese zacca books and magazines on fashion, decor, photography, and more.
- Most mornings begin with working at my computer, where I sip on several cups of green tea. My favorite is Yin Hao Jasmine. I also prepare tea for client appointments (along with a little snack).
- The little glass viles were found at the Alameda antique market. I have a couple dozen and my dad made a woodblock stand for them. I mix gouache in them to create colors for calligraphy or painting projects, and they are the perfect size for most custom projects.
- Vintage ribbon, twine, and thread, because I love to package—I think that the packaging of a gift is part of the gift itself (and sometimes the more exciting part)! I’ve always enjoyed wrapping presents and even put great attention into small online orders that go out.
- Washi tapes (great for crafting and packaging)—a new obsession. Some are gifts from friends; others I bought from Washimatta.
- The antique frame is from my mother; it closes like a book and I take it on long trips. In the frame are photos of Henry and Nico, my dogs and number one (and two) inspiration!!
- My grandma’s initials on gold pins, because family is important to me, and because my grandma Mabel loved to paint and painted with me when I was little.
- The vintage card of a painting of a mountain scape was found at the antique market. I hike or run in the hills most days with my dogs (among big trees and the occasional little brown bunny) and it is this time that gives me the grounding to “keep calm and carry on” with the rest of my day’s work.
- A sampling of a collection of paper clips, from trips to Thailand, Japan, and the local office supply store—because finding beauty in everyday life is what I want to share through my work and Linea Carta.
- A little porcelain house pendant from Elukka. I’ve been dreaming of a new home for a while now, and have always cited the cottage from Howard’s End as my dream home. In that dream world I’d have a studio workshop across the garden, and as I work I’d look out at the dogs lying in the grass and warming their bellies under the sun, hear the leaves on the trees rustle in the wind, and notice the puffy white clouds drifting in the sky..
- Swatches of Linea Carta linens. I’m crazy about screenprinting and I adore linen. It’s luxury for everyday.
- Well-used paint brushes and dip pens, and my favorite nib by Nikko.
- Ribbon trim from India, found at a garage sale.
- Pantone color chips, used for printing and brainstorming.

I love how this was written up and the picture was set up. They go together seamlessly and such a visual treat.
I love this! The photo, the objects, the stories… wonderful!
she sounds so wonderful and grounded – i loved to read about her closeness to family and nature and how both inspire her. all of the objects, of course, are beautiful too.
