We have already documented our interest in knowing what really goes on behind the scenes when creative professionals go to work. This weekend, I was delighted to have found a kindred spirit in this regard: writer and photographer Kate Donnelly. Created in early 2010, From the Desk of… is a site that, in Donnelly’s words, ” is dedicated solely to canvas of the Desk.” With little fanfare or fussy staging, the site provides a genuine glimpse into the workrooms of some of the most well-known designers and creatives in the industry, including Geoff McFetridge, Louise Fili, and many others.
The desks range from large to small; some are cluttered and others meticulous. It’s wonderful to see what some of my design idols choose to surround themselves with as they work, and reading Donnelly’s thoughtful and engaging exchange with each contributor is quite entertaining. Since many of you are already stationed at your own desks, I hope that From the Desk of… provides you with a bit of inspiration and affirmation on this Monday morning.
