I can’t decide if the existence of Resort Collections is the fashion world’s gift to daydreaming, or winter’s cruelest joke. My imagination seems to want to side with the former, and if I accept the appeal of daydreaming, I might as well dive into the deep end and actively search out all of the amazing locales I could (and should) be visiting right now.
The UXUA Casa Hotel is as close to resort heaven as one can find, I think. Nestled in the remote fishing town of Trancoso, Brazil, the UXUA is actually comprised of nine traditional fisherman houses that have been designed to offer true luxury in a rustic, unpretentious, and artisanal fashion. The buildings are designed with the help of local craftsmen and make use of many of the organic and recycled building resources the surrounding environment has to offer. With a full-service spa, fine dining, and an incredible quartz pool on the premises, I think this destination may have rocketed to the top of my must-visit list.
Even though I cannot immediately fly off to Trancoso and drop $700 a night for a visit, I can definitely take a few cues from the UXUA Casa’s elegant design. The interiors of the houses are my favorite kind of island chic. Minimalist, airy, and sophisticated, they rely on the natural texture and color of wood, grass, and clay to provide the bulk of the decor, with the occasional jolt of bold pink or coral red here and there to remind you that you’re in the tropics. I now have some great ideas on how to add a bit of rustic breeziness to my own home for summer, and if I ever need an occasion to wear resort wear, I know exactly where I’ll go…
