The Mammoth Collection

by kate on December 6, 2010

Every year around this time, I naively enter gift-giving season with the intention of making all of my gifts. A painting here, a knitted scarf there. It’ll be a snap, I tell myself, and everyone will be so pleased by the thoughtful gesture. I’m not sure why it hasn’t sunk in yet that finding the time to make artwork for everyone when you haven’t started until the first week of December is just plain nuts.

While I still plan to craft a small gift or two, this year I’m going to let myself off the hook a bit and give my loved ones handmade gifts that are made by someone else’s hands. I happened upon The Mammoth Collection a while back, and I’m thinking that their treasure trove of affordable art prints would be a great place to start for gifts.

The Mammoth Collection bears similarities to other art collector sites like The Beholder (where you can see Anh-Minh’s picks as the current guest curator) and 20 x 200. TMC gives you several sizes to choose from on each print and allows you to search by room, medium, and even color, making the task of finding the perfect piece to fit an awkward spot or complete a room that much easier. You may also want to check out the TMC blog, where they post interviews with their artists and host occasional giveaways. I’m pretty excited about the Russel Leng piece I’m eying for my sister, but that’s all I’m letting on about that …
