Jura Lodge

by kate on November 10, 2010

The Jura Lodge, located on the isle of Jura off the western coast of Scotland, seems like a truly magical place to stay. Jura is known for being sparsely populated, difficult to reach, and home to the distillery of Jura single malt scotch whiskey. The lodge is housed in the former distillery building, but you’d hardly know that from looking at the space. With decadent interiors created by French designer Bambi Sloan, it feels more like the palace of an old eccentric.

According to the lodge website, guests can organize a wide range of activities: shooting, hunting, fishing, fell walking, lobster eating, and of course—whiskey tasting. Jura Lodge is available for private rental, although at $4000/night and a minimum of three nights, it’s by no means cheap. You can also keep an eye on their blog; occasionally they offer some pretty decent discounts.

One thing is certain: you would receive an unforgettable experience at the Jura Lodge. If you pool resources with others, I could see this becoming a fabulous gathering spot for a group of friends, perhaps even a moody and intimate destination wedding … intriguing.

I looked at the last picture really quickly and thought they had a Star Wars stormtrooper suit standing in the hallway. Hee hee! THAT would be cool!

Amazing! I grew up on the neighbouring island of Islay (I go back all the time) and I’d never heard of Jura Lodge – it looks fantastic. Thanks for sharing… might come in handy some time!

Anh-Minh – phew! I thought I was a little crazy (and totally nerdy) for admitting that! Hee hee..

I recently went to a party at someone’s giant house in Rancho Santa Fe, California and they had two suits of armor flanking the entry to the master suite. It was a little scary/weird/intimidating. But the white suit of armor in the last photo is super cheeky — I especially love that he is holding boxes of booze!

So opulent and intriguing–every last detail. This might just top the list of unique get-a-aways so far! Love every design detail and their branding is moody and fabulous. Thanks for sharing this gem!
